The goal of this camp is to teach these young players qualitative movement fundamentals and advanced movement patterns, as well as tangible puck control, possession, protection, shooting and scoring tools that can be directly applied to their training, throughout the season. Please review training descriptions below for further details. If we have a reciprocal number of defenseman and forwards in each group (10 Forwards & 10 Defenseman) we will work on position specific skating and skill development at this camp.

Skills Stations

JSHA believes in small area skill development, which can be directly applied to the game of hockey. These stations will range from fundamental skill development in passing, shooting, stickhandling, to small area keep away drills, puck possessions skills, angling, puck stealing, and how to create space and scoring chances. What will be taught will be dependent on each individual skill group’s collective age and skill level.

Group A Skills Stations: Fundamental Stick Skills, Passing Skills, and Shooting Skills. Small Area Keep Away, Small Area Games.

Group B Skills Stations: Advanced Stick Skills, Passing Skills, and Shooting Skills - Deceptive shooting and changing angles. Small Area Keep Away, Small Area Games, Angling and Puck Stealing Tactics. Position Specific (If numbers are equal between forwards and defensemen).

Classroom & Dryland

These classrooms will be used for guest speakers who are professionals in other fields - Mental Performance, Strength & Conditioning, or Nutrition. Or we will use video to show these athletes stickhandling and agility drills that they can use to develop at home. Dryland will be used to go over what was taught in the classroom.

Group A Classroom & Dryland: JSHA will show this group proper stickhandling technique and hand positioning through video examples. After these techniques are shown, we will run them through similar drills off the ice in dryland.

Group B Classroom & Dryland: JSHA will have guest speakers present to this group on topics such as mental performance, the importance of dryland training, and/or nutrition. If guest speakers cannot attend, we will use these classrooms to show proper stickhandling techniques, puck protection, and attacking the triangle - dryland and on-ice drills will complement these teaching and techniques.
