SUMMER training environments

on-ice training

All JSHA coaches base their on-ice teaching on our skill development pillars: Technical, Tactical, and Cognitive. All players will receive appropriate skill level teaching within their own on-ice groups. Technical skills range from the basic fundamentals to high-quality skill work that is developed from the study of hockey bio-mechanics. Tactical skills are based off of the four cornerstones of hockey: Offense At Puck; Offense Away from Puck; Defense At Puck; Defense Away from Puck. Tactical scoring will be taught through odd and even entry scenarios (1v1; 2v1; 2v2; 3v2). Tactical defense will also be taught during the tactical scoring - helping defenseman learn how to defend these different situations. Cognitive skills are taught through small and large area games that include incentives & restrictions: each player will have an opportunity to apply the technical and tactical skills that they have learned in a fun game environment.

video classroom

Our video classroom with the older age groups will show the players a strong visual of what JSHA staff will be trying to teach that week. We will be using NHL clips, showing our athletes how the best players in the world execute these skills and work together. Evasive skating, deceptive shooting, odd & even entry scenarios, the four cornerstones of hockey will all be covered in these classrooms.

SYNTHETIC TRAINING

All players will be taught technical puck control, passing, and shooting skill in the synthetic space. All JSHA staff in this space have been taught by Jack & other staff members how to teach these technical skills. Hand position & stickhandling drills; shooting hand position, fundamentals of shooting, one-touch / two-touch shooting, and deceptive shooting drills depending on skill level; passing fundamentals & one-touch / two-touch passing techniques.

DRYLAND TRAINING

Dusty Campbell will be leading dryland training. Dusty will be teaching the players tools that they can use at home or any training space to further develop on their own, or with a trainer on their own time beyond the month-long program. Players can expect to work on quick feet & agility drills, explosiveness, body weight training concepts & functional movements, as well as how to properly warm-up and cool-down pre & post-workout. Older age groups can expect to be introduced to and taught resistance weight training. The more experienced players can expect to build on their strength development with more advanced resistance training in the weight room.
